“Sumi-e: East Asian Brush Painting & Calligraphyâ€
January 2, 2008 – February 28, 2008 (Third Floor Gallery)
East Asian brushworks can be traced back to the beginning of China's history and has also been used for writing as early as the 14th century BC when scholars wrote ideograms as guides to carving words and names on ceremonial "oracle" stones and turtle shells. Today, the use of the brush, the ink stick, the grinding stone, and the rice or other papers is an art itself. This exhibit shows how these instruments are used to produce dozens of works created by the members of the Shibui Club who live in the Mobile Area.
